Oscar afterthoughts

It looks like I haven't posted for a while, even though I updated my previous Oscar blog a whole bunch, and I don't really feel like blogging about my trip to Hawaii, so here are a few random thoughts about the Oscars.

* What the eff did Gary Busey say/do to Jennifer Garner on the red carpet? Or, more importantly, why was he even invited?

* There were a lot of minor upsets, I think. I'm still pretty bummed about Amy Ryan not getting her Oscar.

* Hooray for one-shouldered dresses and the abundance of red. Also, can Helen Mirren be any more beautiful? I think not. (Also, her Freudian slip was priceless.)

* Favorite dress of the evening: Marion Cotillard's silvery (at least on my tv it looked silver) Jean-Paul Gaultier gown. She looked amazing. Runner-up: Hilary Swank's black one-shouldered Versace gown.

* Ickiest dress of the evening: Rebecca Miller (Daniel Day-Lewis's wife) looked pretty weird. I wasn't a fan of Tilda "I never wear makeup because I prefer to look ghastly at all times" Swinton's blah get-up, either.

* Favorite piece of jewelry: Jennifer Garner's necklace. Second favorite: Nicole Kidman's necklace. It reminded me of a lighter version of the one she wore in Moulin Rouge!

* Favorite presenter moment: I loved Steve Carell's awkward Michael Scott-esque presentation, but Anne Hathaway was bo-oring. In a perfect world, the Oscars would be hosted by Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert. Comedy goldmine.

* Favorite Jon Stewart joke: The Godzillary Clinton/Away From Her joke. Runner-up: The "Baby" Oscar. This led to another funny involving Jack Nicholson, who did not look amused. Ha.

* Happiest moment for me: Watching Dario Marianelli walk away with the Oscar he completely deserved. Other notables: Watching Transformers lose.

* Why was Brad Renfro overlooked on the In Memoriam tribute?

* Why do all the old guys who win the honorary Oscars always wear white scarves with their tuxes? Anyone with the answer wins a slurpee.

* Just in case you're wondering but don't want to have to go back and count, I was 10 for 14 on my predictions. Not bad.

My favorite Oscar Moment: Glen Hansard (Once) gave a great acceptance speech, I almost cried I was so happy for them. Great flick.

Also good. I was really glad that Jon Stewart brought Marketa Irglova back to say her thanks.
