My weekend with Mamacita.

As I mentioned in my previous post, my mom came up to visit for the weekend. This was a mostly unexpected surprise, since she didn't call me until Thursday night to see if that would be okay for me, so I canceled my weekend plans (sorry, friends!) to make some time for Mamacita, who really needed a break from being a mom for a few days.

Most people who meet my mom end up getting a better idea of why I am the way I am, particularly in the shopping department. When my mom comes up to visit, two things must always transpire: we always go to Firehouse for lunch, and we always spend an extravagant amount of time shopping. On Friday, we began Shopping Extravaganza: Part Une at Ross, then we went to dinner at Chili's. Afterward, we went to the Willow Park Zoo,
which made me happy since I love going to there. It's one of Logan's better kept secrets, an inexpensive, pretty place that houses a lot of injured animals and birds that wouldn't be able to survive in the wild.

Saturday we embarked on Shopping Extravaganza: Part Deux. I should note that we usually cover a lot of ground in a day -- at least 10-15 stores, and generally not counting the mall; however, this time we managed to only hit up a measly 7 (2 of which were in the mall). (Macey's and Home Depot don't count, but due to the supply of CDs, DVDs, and books, I suppose Sam's Club sort of does.)

Now, I've been trying to save money for the whole "getting a new car" event that should technically take place sometime next month. Let's just say that this weekend was a small blow to my progress. I wound up purchasing a lot of random (but mostly necessary) things, and a couple of very pretty (but definitely not necessary) things, such as:

1. Bath rug -- seriously, my bathroom looks exponentially prettier with it. Before, I just looked like slob, since I used a towel in place of a rug. This item was necessary.

2. A bath caddy -- again, necessary -- The sides of my shower/tub are too narrow to hold all of my girlie shower products, so this was another wise choice.

3. A neoprene slipcover for my laptop -- no explanation or justification needed, suckas.

4. A punching bag -- I put this in the necessary category, as I think it's about time I learn how to throw a good punch. Most of you are probably laughing at this purchase, but you better stop laughing by the time I see you next. I've already started practicing.

5. A pair of black peep-toe heels with a subtle bow across the vamp and a pink sole -- my mom made me count the number of black shoes in my closet, hoping I'd see a pattern here, but I already see the pattern, and I don't care. I love black shoes. (In case you're wondering, I own 24 1/2 pairs of black heels; the 1/2 is because my zebra heels are only half black, obviously.)

6. A pair of strappy, patent leather yellow heels -- I put these under necessary only because yellow heels were, up until Saturday, an uncharted territory in my closet.

7. My favorite purchase for the weekend: a red and white floral Donna Ricco dress. It's summery and fun, it's red, my favorite color, and it has pockets! I loooooove pockets on dresses and skirts. I also love the structure, which is a bit different from dresses I usually purchase.

Note: this dress looks better on someone with an hourglass shape, such as myself, as it makes the cut much more dramatic. I think it looks kind of blah on the
model.

As a token of her appreciation for my "hostessing," my mom bought me a pair of cream eyelet peep-toe pumps with silver piping and cork heels. I've been searching for the perfect pair of neutral summer heels, and these are perfect.

Another exciting moment took place at TJ Maxx, when I found this glass fish I saw months ago (just once, when shopping without my purse, and when I went back to buy it the next day, someone had already bought it!). The fish is pretty big, and it has a huge, wide-open mouth. The first time I saw it, I thought of my mom and her penchant for cool candy jars. Imagine my frustration and disappointment when I returned to buy it for her and it was gone. Well, due to some bizarro miracle, this random fish (which I had repeatedly looked for at several TJ Maxx locations) just so happened to be back on the shelf! I showed my mom and she loved it; now she's trying to think of the perfect candy to put in it. So far, Swedish fish are the choice sweets.

During our shopping escapades at Dillard's, we found some new perfumes to covet. For all my talk of DvF dresses and designer shoes, I don't seem to say much about perfumes, but I seriously love them. I love the aesthetic of the bottles, I love the way so many things combine to make such alluring scents, and I love the way menfolk react to a nice perfume. (What? I'm a girl; sue me.) Anyway...a few months ago, I saw the new Marc Jacobs perfume and thought it looked cute, but didn't have time (or money) to find a salesperson and go through the perfume motions. Well, a few weeks ago, I finally got to smell it, and it was lovely. It was more floral than most of my scents, which usually have a good combination of flowers and fruit, but I loved it nonetheless. At the time, Dillard's not only had no gift sets, but no samples. This weekend, they had samples. I'm excited to give the new scent a test drive and see how I like it. Hopefully they'll come out with a set within the next few months. (You know, just in time for my birthday.)

Aside from SE:2, we spent the rest of our Saturday time going to lunch at Firehouse, driving down Center Street to look at my favorite houses, going to Iron Gate Grille for dinner, and introducing her to the grocery store with the prettiest produce section I've ever seen: the Macey's in Providence. Oh, and around 11:45, we hit that giddy stage where we laugh over dumb stuff and my mom spills 32 ounces of water all over the place. If people had witnessed this, I'm sure they would have thought we were completely drunk.

Mamacita went back home on Sunday morning, and I was sad to see her go, though I now understand why she and my dad usually fight about room temperature at night. I swear, the woman could sleep like a baby in a sauna. Who requests fleece blankets in the middle of June?

I love you, Mamacita! I hope you come up to visit again soon.
